The objective of varietal improvement for cropping systems has recently interested plant breeders after realizing that multiple cropping and related cropping systems can be a sound approach to intensify food, oil and fiber production, both under lowland planting areas in many parts of the world. For this special topic, some problems such as environmental facter as well as socio-economic problem associated with cropping system are proposed for breeding objective and selection criteria for improving upland rice varieties, especially to suit growing conditions of the highland.
